Apples to Apples

Howdy everyone!

I just got done with an amazing (and fun!) workout with Chelsea. She has been hooked on Brazilian Booty Lift for a while and it kicked our butts for about 45 minutes tonight. Now–don’t let the name fool you. This is a good workout, and my booty is burnin’.

Yesterday I experimented with these ingredients…

…and made some homemade applesauce. The apples simmered and bubbled to gooey goodness. It is sweet and tart and cinnamon-y all at once. Can your mouth handle all that?! 🙂

Cinnamon Applesauce (No Sugar Added!)

  • 3lbs. apples (make sure they are a sweet kind, like pink ladies, gala or honey crisp)
  • 1 cup No Sugar Added 100% Apple Juice
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 Tbsp. Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. Lemon Juice
  • pinch of salt

Peel, core and cut the apples (this is more of a workout than you think!).

Naked apples!

Pile them into a large pot and add the remaining ingredients. There will look like there is not enough liquid, but once the apples begin to cook they will release their own juices.

Don't think they will fit in a little pot like this...I had to upgrade 🙂

Bring the apple mixture to a simmer and let simmer in the pot, uncovered, for 15-20 minutes or until the liquid has reduced down. Take the pot off the stove and let cool for a few minutes.

Then mash with a fork, potato masher, or anything you have on hand. I used my new immersion blender!

Thanks for the great gift, mama!

The applesauce is definitely a sweet treat–and there is only 45 calories in every 1/2 cup serving. This is half of the calories found in the same size serving of regular, packaged applesauce!

Healthy Snackage at its best!

I am going to blog about the inspiration for this yummy treat tomorrow–so be sure to check back!

❤ Kath
